How to check if you're eligible for CITB funding

To be eligible for CITB funding you need to apply with the below

  • You’re a construction based company. CITB have a list of eligible construction industry activities. Click here to check the list.
  • You have either employees or subcontractors

What funding are you eligible for?

If you have 1 to 49 employees you can access £5,000 to spend on training courses twice a year.

If you use subcontractors then you can access £2,500 to spend on training courses twice a year.

The CITB also have other funding grants available such as short course grants, which stretch your funding even further. And depending on where you’re based you might be part of an employer network which means fast tracked funding with no particular cap.

What can you use the funding on

You can use the funding on all of our spraying courses, and other construction/business related training courses.

The CITB funding process - step by step

Decide if you want to register to CITB

When you register to CITB, you are entering the CITB's levy. If your total annual wage bill (what you pay out in salaries) is under £120k then you don't have to pay into the levy but you can access all the CITB funding benefits. If your wage bill is above this, you'll have to pay 0.35% for employees and 1.25% for subcontractors. Small businesses get a 50% discount.

Register to CITB

To access the funding you need a CITB registration number. You can register with CITB online and once approved, you'll get a CITB reg number sent to you.

FAQ

Your questions answered

All of our spraying courses can be funded. This includes:

  • Airless and HVLP spraying
  • UPVC spraying
  • Kitchen and furniture spraying
  • Granite spraying

It depends on if you are new to CITB or not, but in general the process takes anywhere from 1 to 3 months.

Potentially – it depends on which courses you’d like to book and where you’re based. For certain courses/locations you can skip the application process and so we can book you in a lot faster. Get in touch to find out more.

The entire cost is covered by CITB funding. Once we know how much you’re eligible for, we can advise on how many courses you can do.

Yes, you can use your funding on any construction related courses you’d like to do – whether they’re with us or someone else. We can help you, along with your local CITB advisor, to put the application together with a combination of different training providers included.

No. If you’ve applied for funding you don’t end up using, you can just pay this back to CITB.

You can apply for your funding twice in a year. This is a new initiative. You need to have completed the training from your first application. Once you’ve done so, you can then do a new application, which we can help with. The funding renews every year.

It means that CITB have vetted our courses and approved them for CITB funding. This means we can handle the whole process for you and get your courses funded faster. You can use CITB funding with training providers who aren’t an ATO but you’d need to explain to CITB how you’ve vetted the quality of their training and it’s not guaranteed CITB would allow the funding to go ahead.

Of course, nothing is for free. By registering to the  CITB you’re entering into the CITB’s levy. This is where the funding for your course comes from.

Larger construction companies whose wage bill (i.e. what you pay out to employees/subcontractors) exceeds £120k a year, pay a percentage into the levy.

By registering, you’re entering into this levy so if you ever exceeded the £120k wage bill you’d have to start paying in. But if you stay under this, you don’t have to pay and you still get access to all the benefits.

Most of the companies we deal with are small and never exceed this limit. But you need to be aware of this before registering. Companies who do exceed the £120k typically charge their levy percentage (usually around 0.35%) on jobs. Check out the levy calculator for more information here

We can do all of the paperwork for you with the help of your local CITB advisor.

We have two training centres where you can use your CITB funding. Our main training centre is based in Wiltshire, postcode sN15 4BU. We also have a training centre in Greater Manchester, postcode M23 9PH.

What if you're not eligible for CITB funding?

If you don’t have any payroll then at the moment you won’t be able to access the CITB funding. However, if you want to access it then we recommend considering the following…

  • Do you have a job coming up that you could use a subcontractor on?
  • Have you been considering taking on an apprentice?
  • Do you ever subcontract for anyone else? Could you speak to them about potentially funding the course through CITB for you?
